Annual Register Of Vestry Persons: Each year in the month of January every Church of Ireland parish revises its register of parishione­rs. People, who have become new members of the parish and parishione­rs who have reached the age of eighteen are entitled to become registered members of the Parish (referred to as registered vestry members). In a similar manner, names of those who have ceased to be registered vestry persons through death or having moved away from the parish, are deleted.

The Alpha/In-Between Book Club: The next meeting of the Book Club will take place at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, The books for this review and discussion at this meeting are – ‘Elinor Elephant is Completely Fine’ by Gail Honeyman and ‘Plainsong’ by Kent Haruf.

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m.

Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availabili­ty in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further informatio­n. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, Use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25 people, or 15 people.

Tidy Towns calendars for 2018: Now are available now in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Cost: €5.

Thank You: Thank you to all the children who took part in the Christmas Eve Nativity Play at the 10.30 a.m. Family Mass. Well done to all the wonderful actors and narrators. Many thanks too to the adults who run the Children’s Liturgy.

First Friday: This Friday is the First Friday of the month and the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel will be open from 10.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. Priests will be available to visit the housebound and the sick – anyone who would like to receive a visit is asked to leave their name and cont5cat details into St Anne’s Resource Centre.

Queen of the May Prayer Group: Will gather for their first meeting of 2018 next Tuesday (January 8) at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. From February onwards the group will meet on the first Tuesday of the month. Please join in for prayer, Bible readings, intercessi­ons, praise and worship.

Youth 2000: We invite all 16- to 35-year-olds to come to St Anne’s Resource Centre for the next meeting which takes place on this coming Monday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. to gather for adoration, prayer and reflection under the guidance of Fr Jaimie. The meetings are followed by a cup of tea and social from 9 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

St Anne’s Parish Library: There is a wonderful selection of religious/spiritual books available to borrow – free of charge in the foyer of St Anne’s Resource Centre. Opening hours: Monday to Thursday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hospitalit­y Sunday occurs on the second and fourth Sunday of each month after 10.30 a.m. Mass. Books will be on display and available to browse/borrow at that time also.

Prayer for the eighth on the eighth day of each Month: We invite parishione­rs to give private adoration in the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel on the eighth day of each month to pray for the protection of the unborn.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. BOOK SALE

This Saturday the January First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, will take place in the Shankill Old Folks Day Centre, Lower Road, Shankill, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. so make a point of calling into the book sale on Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the New Year.

Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on the day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays – closed this Friday but open on Saturday. The parents and Toddler Group meets on Monday mornings,(except bank holiday Mondays and the second Monday of the month), from 10.30 a.m. to 11.20 a.m.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Autumn 2017 was busy one for the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and the surroundin­g area, with the society holding its week long 43rd summer Series of Evening Lectures during August in Rathmichae­l School, taking a break for September, and commencing its monthly lectures in October with a presentati­on by Final Dwyer, who recalled ‘The Black Death in the Dublin Region’, followed in November by Jason Bolton, who spoke about ‘Early Medieval Masons in Rathdown’ and Cormac Lowth in December, who revealed forgotten artist ‘Richard Bridges Beechey – Marine Artists and his Connection­s with Dún Laoghaire’.

Tonight (Wednesday) the January meeting of the society will take place at 8 p.m. in Rathmichae­l School, Shankill, at which the AGM of the society will take place and will conclude with a presentati­on by John Lennon covering ‘The History of Main Street, Dundrum’. All welcome to attend – admission €4.

Those wishing to join the Rathmichae­l Historical Society can do so this meeting.

Members are reminded that annual membership subscripti­ons fell due for renewal on January 1 and can be renewed at tonight’s AGM.

ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NOTES

The Academy is taking a break and will resume training in St Laurence College at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 20. Our committee and members would like to wish one and all ‘A Happy and Peaceful Christmas’.

We held a fundraisin­g bag pack in Dunnes Stores Cornelscou­rt last Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The annual general meeting will be held in St Anne’s Resource Centre Shankill at 8 p.m. on Monday, January 29.
