GLENMALURE PURE MILE

As the year 2018 begins a new event is being organised in Glenmalure to celebrate its mining heritage. Local history tells us that while lead mining was flourishing in the townlands of Baravore and Ballinagoneen at the head of the glen in the 1800s up to 100 hand held lights crossed the fjord at Baravore on Christmas morning on the way to Mass and church services. This heritage has inspired local poet, Seán Healy to pen a marvelous poem describing this event.
