Library reopens as work finishes

- By MARY FOGARTY

ENNISKERRY Library has reopened, two months since its closure for repairs.

The library opened yesterday morning, Tuesday, January 9.

It has been closed since November for necessary upgrade works, including insulation, roof repair and the installation of a new heating system.

On visiting the upgraded building, Councillor Christopher Fox said ‘I am delighted with the improvements to the building. The new heating system is particularly effective and cosy. I am sure that the Enniskerry public will be delighted to again have access to their valued Carnegie library. It is also good news that the works have provided a higher energy and BER rating than previously.’

The roof of the library was already in need of attention, and storm Ophelia exacerbated this.

The building lost some slates during the hurricane and some guttering came down

In addition to the improved building, a significant amount of new stock is now in place, to get people reading again in 2018, according to county librarian Brendan Martin.

There are also downloadable e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines e-comics and e-languages

The opening hours are being adjusted, in order to facilitate public demand – in particular, the interest expressed from the local primary schools, to bring classes to the library each week.

The new opening hours are: Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
