Organisers would like to wish all club members and friends all the best that 2018 can deliver, whether at the bridge table or in the home. May each one enjoy a peaceful and stress-free year with good company, good health and enough for all of us to keep body and soul together in our troubled world.

The club wishes to express its deepest sympathy to the family of the late Linda Saunders who died just after Christmas. She was a great friend of bridge players in so many clubs up and down the country and served in the Eastern Region executive. May she rest on peace.

The first bridge meet of the New Year took place last Wednesday and was marred by the storm Eleanor forecast that kept members at home in front of their warm fires.

There were more participan­ts at the early tutorial session than there were for the regular competitio­n and organisers were delighted to welcome four new faces to that early session and to introduce them to the club.

The competitio­n on the night took the form of a movement known as a Chicago. It certainly was a very windy night! The top prize was shared by Una McGowran and Larry Ryan and Marian Canavan and Michael Ryan.
