Seconds hoping for strong finish to their league

WICKLOW’S seconds got back to winning ways with a battling performanc­e to beat a tough Gorey side at Ashtown lane on Sunday.

Wicklow got off to a good start and led 21–8 with tries from Russell Andrew and Allen Byrne. Gorey produced a brilliant fightback to peg Wicklow back to 21–20.

With the game in Injury time Alex Porter ripped a ball from the Gorey full back and crashed over to score a crucial try. The conversion was missed but Wicklow held on for a crucial 26–20 win.

This was a big win for the seconds that will give them some real confidence as they look forward to a strong finish in the league and a good run in the cup.
