HOLY REDEEMER PARISH

Evening Mass: There will be no Evening Mass this week.

First Communion Mass – Do This In Memory: This Sunday there will be a Holy Communion Programme Mass for all children making their First Holy Communion in 2018. We look forward to seeing the boys and girls and their parents or guardians for this special Mass.

Christmas Dues: We would like to thank those who have handed in their Christmas dues to date. Your contributi­ons are greatly appreciate­d.

St Vincent de Paul Monthly Collection: The monthly collection will take place this Sunday at all Masses. Your support is greatly appreciate­d.

Young at Heart Dinners: Young at Heart dinners will resume in February. Date to be confirmed.

Monday Club is a social club for people with memory loss and their family carers. Support activities, fun and outings. For more informatio­n contact 089 4286928. Monday Club will recommence next Monday (January 8).

OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE

Christmas Stamps: If you have any used stamps, please leave them in the Villa Pacis during office hours. Please leave at least a quarter inch around each stamp. Thank you.

Church Cleaners: We are in need of cleaners for the church for Wednesdays 11 a.m. to midday. Please contact the sacristy at 01 2723865.

Bethany Bereavemen­t: Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group would like to invite people who wish to become volunteers in the Bethany Group. Training will take place in Drumcondra during January 2018 and will be paid for by Bethany. If you would like to volunteer and be trained please contact us on the Bethany Mobile for details 086 1696765. Volunteers will be interviewe­d by Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group General Executive Council.

QOP YOUTH CLUB

An induction course for new leaders will be run by the Queen of Peace Adventure Youth Club this month. Five people have expressed interest and there is room for more. There are plans to extend the range of the club activities and this will require more leaders. The club has 10 leaders at the present, 50 members, and run 90 events each year. This is the 51st year of the club and there are great expectatio­ns for expansion. Call 01 2860837 if interested.

DIVING CLUB

Bray Divers extend a warm watery welcome to new member Tony. He observed some of Brendan Moran’s excellent underwater photograph­s at an exhibition in the Glenview Hotel, and being a very keen photograph­er himself he decided to become an underwater diving photograph­er. To date two sessions have been completed and he is now ready to begin sea snorkellin­g.

The club is now preparing to enrol two more new trainees, and advise that the courses are tailor made to suit the candidates. Call Albert at 087 6756439, and you could be diving in the very near future.

CUALANN SOCIETY

The AGM of the Bray Cualann Historical Society, the local history society for Bray and North Wicklow, will take place at 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, in the Royal Hotel Bray and all members are requested to attend. The meeting will conclude with presentati­ons by Brian White on ‘Bray 1918’ and ‘Votes for Women’ – all welcome, admission free for members and €5 for visitors, Those wishing to join the society can do at this meeting.

In the meantime events which may be of interest to members of the society are tomorrow night’s (Thursday) 8.30 p.m. lecture by Brian White looking at ‘Enniskerry 1914 – 1918’ to the Enniskerry History Society in the Powerscour­t Arms and Country House Hotel, Enniskerry Village – admission €5 ; this Friday night’s 8 p.m. lecture by Dr Harman Murtagh on ‘French military interventi­on in; Ireland 1689-1691’ to the Military History Society of Ireland in Griffith College, South Circular Road, Dublin eight. All welcome – wheelchair access available; next Tuesday night’s 8 p.m. of the Foxrock Local History Club in Foxrock Parish Pastoral Centre, rere Foxrock RC Church, Foxrock, Co. Dublin, at which Harry Bradshaw will present the Main Talk on ‘From 2RN to RTÉ Raidio’ and will be preceded by a Short Talk by Myles Reid looking at ‘The remaining, the lost and the forgotten Gate Lodges in our area’. All welcome – admission €5; and next Wednesday night’s 8 p.m. meeting of the Dun Laoghaire Borough Historical Society in the Royal Marine Hotel, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, at which Vincent Delaney will present his lecture ‘History of the Water Wags’. All welcome – entrance €3.

JOSEPHINE HEFFERNAN

Last Sunday the 47-minute documentar­y ‘Josephine H’ about Bray woman, Josephine Heffernan, who served a nurse with the US Army in France during 1918, and is buried in St Peter’s Cemetery, Little Bray, was screened on the French TV two channel at 1.25 p.m. and was repeated at 0.45 a.m. on the same channel last Monday.

In Ireland we will have to wait a week to see it on Replay France two. It is expected that the documentar­y will be aired on TV5 Monde in the near future.
