Fined €200 for dumping waste

-

A MAN who admitted dumping waste at Charlesland was fined €200 at Bray District Court last Thursday.

Patrick O’Brien (29) lives in a mobile home in Glasnevin.

The court heard that large-scale dumping was discovered on the site in Greystones by Wicklow County Council in July 2016.

There was a two-week investigation resulting in multiple prosecutions.

Waste found at the site included clothes, duvets, furniture, books, electrical items and more. Inspectors discovered paperwork belonging to a woman living in Ballybrack. She gave a statement in which she said she had handed over waste to an unauthorised collector. She handed over a photograph of the registration of the vehicle which had taken the waste and this vehicle was registered to Alice O’Brien, the defendant’s partner.

The Ballybrack woman identified Patrick O’Brien in her statement.

The court heard that Mrs O’Brien has paid €800 towards the cost of the clean-up. A summons against her was struck out as her husband took responsibility for the matter.

Barrister Eibhlinn Ní Raghallaigh said that her client did co-operate to a certain extent. He is a married man with five children. They are homeless at the moment and living in a mobile home, she said.

O’Brien was given six months to pay the fine.
