DEADLINE IS LOOMING FOR HERITAGE GRANTS

-

APPLICATIONS for funding from owners of protected structures and structures within Architectural Conservation Areas (ACAs) must be lodged with Wicklow County Council by the deadline of Wednesday, January 31.

Funding will be considered for two Department of Culture, Heritage, the and Gaeltacht (DCHG) schemes – the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) and the Structures at Risk Fund (SRF).

The Built Heritage Investment Scheme was created to assist with the repair and conservation of structures that are protected under the Planning and Development Act 2000. In certain cases the scheme is also available for the conservation of within an ACA where, in the opinion of the local authority, the need for works to enhance the character and appearance of an ACA has been demonstrated.

The Structures at Risk Fund assists with works to safeguard certain historic structures into the future where, in the opinion of the DCHG, an urgent need has been demonstrated. It aims to reduce the risk of deterioration of Ireland’s architectural heritage while supporting employment for conservation professionals, contractors and specialists.

It also supports owners/occupiers in their long-term commitment to securing the future of the architectural heritage.

Only structures or parts of structures in immediate danger of significant deterioration will qualify for consideration for funding by DCHG.

Full details of each scheme including guidelines and application forms are available in relevant circulars at ww.wicklow.ie, or by request from Wicklow County Council Planning Office (0404) 20100. All completed applications should to be returned by email or post to: BHIS/SRF Planning Section, Wicklow County Council, County Buildings, Wicklow town.
