Kilcarra hit last week

-

ILLEGAL dumping once again blighted the countryside at Kilcarra West on the outskirts of Arklow in recent days.

A large volume of domestic waste was dumped in a gateway some time overnight last Thursday. Household waste, broken furniture and bits of metal were visibly dumped either side of the entrance to Kilcarra Wood.

It was detected at 7 a.m. on Friday morning and reported to Wicklow County Council by Councillor Mary McDonald.

‘It was not there Thursday evening and I saw it at 7 a.m. Friday morning so it was dumped overnight. It is so frustrating because this area has been largely left along in terms of dumping in recent months. It makes no sense that anyone would dump this stuff there as the vast majority of it is recycling. Regardless of which direction they came from there is a free recycling centre, one in Arklow and one in Avoca,’ Cllr McDonald said.

The Sinn Féin councillor added that Wicklow County Council applied for funding in September to assist with combatting dumping in the area but there has been no update on the status of this in recent months.
