‘LEGEND’ HAS IT!

Rangers star gets the Carnew Emmets job

-

CARNEW EMMETS have secured a manager for the fast-approaching season and they have found a ‘Legend’ in the shape of former Mount Leinster Rangers and Carlow hurler James Hickey.

Carnew Emmets Chairman Tim Balfe says that the Wexford border club is delighted to have secured the services of such a passionate man for their hurling and football sides.

“We’re delighted to have him join us,” said Balfe. “In all the conversations we have had with the man, he has come across as really passionate and he wants to do great things with Carnew,” he added.

Hickey, known fondly as ‘Legend’ in Carlow, won a Leinster Senior club title with Rangers when they sensationally defeated Oulart The Ballagh of Wexford in December of 2013, and was the man who featured in the AIB promotional video that went viral when urging his teammates to fulfil his dream of lining out at Croke Park on All-Ireland final day.

Hickey spoke passionately in the MLR dressing room before the semi-final victory against Loughgiel Shamrocks and his stirring words helped to inspire his teammates to a stunning victory.

Sadly, Hickey sustained cruciate knee ligament damage in a challenge game against Offaly and he was unable to feature in Croke Park against Portumna who went on to claim the All-Ireland crown in 2014.

Meanwhile, Philip Smullen and Paul Hayden have reunited to take charge of Éire Óg Greystones after the departure of Alan Costello, while Coolkenno have secured the services of former Baltinglass player Damien McMahon as they seek to bounce back from relegation from Senior this year.

Ballinacor will be looking to club man Paidi Byrne as they launch an attack on the IFC in 2018.
