Six sides for Senior battle

Format includes quarter-finals

-

AVONDALE’S decision to seek a move down to Intermediate from Senior last week has left the Senior championship looking all the sparser ahead of the 2018 season.

The proud club may have made the best choice available to them given results of the last number of years and a chance to rebuild and recover might serve them far better than continuing to struggle at the top table and their honesty and courage should be applauded.

With the senior championship now populated by Bray Emmets, Carnew Emmets, Éire Óg Grey- stones, Glenealy, Kiltegan, and St Patrick’s it should make the competition more ruthless.

With new managers at two of the clubs, Paul Carley with Bray Emmets and Mount Leinster Rangers star James Hickey with Carnew, this year’s Dacia Cars Senor Hurling Championship will hopefully throw up some belters of games.

The CCC proposed a round robin format with the top four teams going into the semi-finals.

However, Bray Emmets proposed quarter-finals ahead of the draw being made.

“Just remember, lads in Carnew, you might get no time to train this year,” warned Martin Fitzgerald.

“Not great trainers at the best of times,” said James ‘Bear’ Doran.

Bridget Kenny said that there would be similar repercussions as the Intermediate championship in that clubs could be facing congested weekends where both hurling and football may have to be played.

She also thanked Dacia Cars for sponsoring the competition and Paddy Magee in particular for his support of the competition.

The teams were drawn out as follows:

1 – Carnew Emmets, 2 – Glenealy, 3 – St Patrick’s, 4 – EO, 5 – Bray Emmets, 6 – Kiltegan
