Round robin for Junior

-

SIX clubs will do battle in the Junior hurling championship with all six teams guaranteed to get to a final of some kind.

The clubs are: Barndarrig, Bray, Carnew, Éire Óg, Glenealy, St Pat’s.

Avondale were asked if they were entering a team but their delegate said indicated that it would not be a worthwhile move.

“We had players meeting and we had 21 players at it. The feeling of the players was that we weren’t up to the standard of Senior and that we would put one team in (Intermediate). That’s the players’ decision. We could enter a Junor team but I can guarantee you after a few games we wouldn’t have 15 out to play,” he said.

Bridget Kenny asked if the competition would now be round robin given that there were six teams involved.

“I thought we said open draw at the last meeting,” said James Doran of Carnew Emmets..

“There were 10 teams when we were talking about that,” replied Bridget Kenny.

“Everyone plays one another, top two go to the final of the Junior ‘A’, next two to Junior ‘B’ and bottom two to Junior ‘C’.

Mick Hagan warned that it may be sometime before the Junior hurling championship can be played.

“A motion was passed that you play Senior, Intermediate then Junior. It will be a long way down to road before we have Junior championship,” he said.

“First week of July on,” said Tom Byrne.

The draw: 1 – Éire Óg, 2 – Barndsarrig, 3 – Glenealy, 4 – Carnew, 5 – St Pat’s, 6 – Bray Emmets.
