The alternative awards from a super shindig

QUICKEST WALK TO THE PODIUM

Ronan Manley (Glenealy) The Intermediate Hurler of the Year award winner was up out of his seat like lightening and Glenealy Senior manager Garry Laffan will have to have been impressed with Manley’s turn of pace as he stormed up to the podium to collect his gong. #RapidRonan grey jacket approach; Kavanagh with the full shebang and Miley with jacket and separate trousers. There were plenty of bow ties on the night: David Maloney looked dapper with a black number, Jack Hanlon sporting a tasty blue model with waistcoat.

James Kavanagh decided to forego the bow tie and leave the top button of his dazzlingly white shirt open.

There were plenty of finely dressed male award winners to be fair, but we’re giving the nod to Kiltegan’s Padraig O’Toole for his successful and confident pulling off of his checked jacket and bow tie combination with white shirt and tight slacks that slipped snugly over his bulging thighs.

Also, not a trace of a sock to be seen on the feet of the Junior B Hurler of the Year award winner. Fair play, young man, fair play.

BIGGEST CHEER

Warren Kavanagh (Glenealy) The Rathnew contingent got a mighty roar but when Warren Kavanagh’s name was announced he had the benefit of both the Rathnew contingent and the Glenealy posse and together they created a raucous riot of celebration.

TOTES EMOTIONAL

Tommy Foley (Dunlavin) You’d have to have a heart of stone not to be moved by Tommy Foley’s reaction to being named as the Hall of Fame winner for 2017.

Jimmy Dunne’s outstanding description of the Dunlavin and Wicklow legend’s sporting life left nobody in any doubt of the dedication and immense effort this wonderful Gael has shown and given to the GAA in Wicklow.
