Coláiste Bhríde camogie team bow out of Leinster

COLÁISTE BHRÍDE CARNEW may have qualified for the boys Senior football final but their girls teams did not have the same success during the week.

Their Junior camogie team played in the Leinster semi-final in Bray on Thursday against a strong team from Scoil Mhuire Trim. The Carnew school were depleted due to flu and victory went to the Meath school.

Coláiste Bhríde were the holders of the Wicklow girls junior football championsh­ip and came up against Scoil Chonglais in the semi-final in Tinahely on Friday. At half-time, the Baltinglas­s school led by the wide margin of 24 points but the holders put in a great second half effort to reduce the lead to three points with only a few minutes to go. Scoil Chonglais regained the initiative in the closing stages to run out winners by 10-7 to 9-1.

GIRLS SENIOR B

The girls Senior football ‘B’ semi-final between Dominican College Wicklow and Loreto College Bray was played in Rathnew on Friday. It proved to be another high-scoring game with victory going to the Bray school by 9-4 to 4-9. Outstandin­g for the winners were Rachel Rice, Laura Butler and Carla Lennon.

Best for Dominican College were Saoirse O’Reilly, Niamh Caffrey, Erin O’Brien, Aoife Dunne and Áine Cahill.

BOYS JUNIOR

The first quarter-final in the boys Junior football ‘A’ championsh­ip was played in Ballinakil­l in heavy conditions on Wednesday. A strong Avondale CC team used the wind advantage well in the first half to lead well at half-time. A young Coláiste Chraobh Abhann Kilcoole team battled well in the second half but Avondale were worthy winners on a 9-2 to 1-6 scoreline.
