Awesome Aughrim
GAA club honours its young stars with superb event
AUGHRIM GAA Club’s juveniles celebrated a very successful year on the playing fields with the presentation of medals to their young stars at the Aughrim community grounds last weekend.
Presentations were made to the club’s under-5s, under-7s,under9s, the mini-festival winning football and hurling under-11 teams on the day.
Also presented were the under-13 footballers who won their section of the league and the under-13 football team who won the ‘B’ championship, the first success by an Aughrim team on their own since the late 1950s.
Special guests at the event were All-Ireland winner Denis Bastick, who brought the Delaney Cup(Leinster Championship Trophy), Matty Forde, All Star footballer from neighboring club Killanerin in Wexford, and local hero Robert Lambert (Wicklow county goalkeeper).
Following the presentation there was a disco for the kids while the adults enjoyed a sociable cup of tea - a wonderfully successful event to kickstart the year.
