Super six shine in Wexford

-

A team of six boxers travelled to take part in the Liam Walsh memorial in Wexford last weekend. Sean Byrne, Liam Molloy, Sean Fleming, Michael Moorehouse, Damien Aigbologa and Owen Moore made up the strong Arklow unit.

Liam Walsh was a great friend of Arklow Boxing Club for 40 years and is father of Billy Walsh, current head coach of team U.S.A.

It was an honour for the Arklow club to be invited to this prestigeous tournament.

Liam Molloy was first in action against Stephen Howlin and Liam was in excellent form, using the ring well and picking off Stephen with accurate left jabs.

Sean Byrne was next in action and used his footwork to good effect against Rory O’Connor.

Michael Moorehouse was in with a very tall boxer, Jack Shiggins, from Esker boxing club.

This was a tremendous bout with Shiggins winning the first round but Michael won the second and third rounds to gain victory.

Owen Moore was in complete control against Ben Murphy st ibars scoring with good attacks for an impressive win.

Sean Fleming had a ding dong bout with Wayne Joyce esker. Joyce winning the first and Sean the second the Esker boy just shaded the third to win a split decision.

Damien Aibologa had a great battle with JJ Tuite Mulhullard losing the first round but recovering to win the second and third rounds to win the contest

Wicklow boxers will take on the mighty Wexford team on Sunday next, January 28, at the Sacre Couer club in Enniscorthy at 2pm.

Arklow will be represented by three young boxers: Luke Mulhall, Lukas Godkin and Philip Feokrytova.

Unfortunately Arklow’s top older boys and girls will not be on this show as each of the clubs in the county will hope to have two or three boxers.

Arklow currently has 10 Leinster champions and two Irish champions in their squad.
