Largest number of sites on the register are located in Newtownmountkennedy

- By MYLES BUCHANAN

SEVEN sites in Newtownmountkennedy are among the 18 included on the Vacant Sites Register, one of which is located on Main Street and is in the ownership of Wicklow County Council.

Another Main Street site included belongs to Dwyer Nolan Development Ltd of Stonebridge House, Stonebridge Close, Shankill, Co Dublin.

Cllr Shay Cullen, the Cathaoirleach of Wicklow Municipal District, feels Newtownmountkennedy is a growing town, with an increasing need for additional housing.

‘It is important that owners of prime sites look at the possibility of developing these sites. Newtownmountkennedy is growing at such a pace and there is a real demand for residential property in the area. There also seems to be a lot of interest in commercial activities in Newtownmountkennedy as well.

‘It’s one of the fastest-growing villages in Ireland. I know the Newtownmountkennedy Forum have been doing great work in highlighting what the area really needs. Prime sites need to be developed, for the benefit of everyone.’

The other Newtownmountkennedy sites are at the junction of Main Street with the R765, owned by Brendan Grennan, Sea Road, Kilcoole; Main Street belonging to Aquafawn Ltd, Wentworth Place, Wicklow town; Main Street belonging to TJ Foley, Springmount, Newtownmountkennedy; Church Road owned by Holross Holdings, 69 Friarshill, Wicklow town and Church Road owned by Swan Oaks Ltd, 37 Rossmore Lawns, Templeogue, Dublin 6W. Wicklow County Council are also currently inviting submissions for the preparation of the draft Newtownmountkennedy Local Area Plan 2018 - 2024.

A public workshop on the plan will take place in the Parkiview Hotel on Thursday, February 1, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
