Seussical

Bray Musical Society has announced the cast for their upcoming production of Seussical at Mermaid Arts Centre in April, 2018.

Marie Davy will play Mazie Kelly, Clodagh Forde Kangaroo and John COnroy Horton.

Other characters include The Grinch, played by Simon Tobin, Yertle the Turtle played by Paula Gregan, and Thing 1 and 2 - played by Sarah Egan and Ciara Fleming.

Tomi Reichaenta­l

The film ‘Condemned to Remember’ will be screened at Mermaid Arts Centre on Saturday, February 3 at 8 p.m. Tickets are €8 or €6 concession.

Irish Holocaust survivor Tomi Reichental celebrates his 80th birthday in a Dublin Mosque and embarks on an epic journey across a Europe in turmoil. Along the way he puts himself into the shoes of the ‘new Jews’ and discovers a strong common bond with refugees fleeing the hell that is Syria.

Mini marathon

The 10th annual East Coast FM Wicklow Wide Coffee Morning is back on the 20th April 2018. Over the past nine years, the annual event has raised over 400,000 euro for the five Cancer Support Services in Wicklow plus The Wicklow Hospice Foundation.

As part of the 10 year celebratio­ns, they are entering a team into the VHI Ladies Mini Marathon that take place on June 3. They are asking runners, joggers and walkers to join the team and raise funds for the cancer services.

Organiser, Clare Hogan said ‘I am so excited to announce this new edition to the annual fundraiser. It’s such as great way to not only get fit but to meet the local community of Wicklow’. The staff at East Coast FM are all polishing their running shoes and excited to get fit for 2018 and raise funds for these vital services in Wicklow’

A registrati­on event will take place at the Glenview Hotel on Wednesday, January 17 at 7.30 p.m.

The night will include details on how to train for the event. Throughout the year there will be group runs and walks to keep everyone on track. Each runner will receive an East Coast FM team t-shirt plus transport on mini-marathon day.

Comedy festival

The 2018 Bray Comedy Festival will take place in February, with opening night on February 14, St Valentine’s Day.

Acts to perform at the festival will include The Rubber Bandits; McDonnell, John Colleary and Gar Murran; Laughter Yoga; Punch Lion Kids Comedy; Science Magic with Donal Vaughan in Bray’s Town Hall (so good it sold out twice last year) and Laughter Lounge’s Steve Cummins Legends of Lounge with Totally Wired, Paul Marsh and Paul Currie.

Making their festival circuit debuts - Aidan Greene and his ‘500 Days of Stammer’, Diane O’Connor, divulging all about ‘Breastfeed­ing Al Fresco’ and Martin Angolo’s ‘Jokes About Buildings and Other Things’.

In venues dotted around Bray, tickets for selected gigs are on sale at braycomedy­festival.ie.

Venues include: The Harbour Bar, Porter House, Koo Nightclub, The Esplanade Hotel, Signal Arts, Bray Town Hall, Dockyard No. 8 and Bray Bowl.

Babies at the Bridge. Meets every Tuesday 10.30 till 12 at The Epworth Hall, Florence Road. For new mums/ dads/ or minders and their first baby. Age group: Newborn up to crawling. Voluntary contributi­on of €3. Tea, coffee, biscuits and chat.

Building better relationsh­ips

Interested in building better relationsh­ips at home, work or college?

Join the group as they learn together how to build better relationsh­ips and to apply the practical insights of Dr William Glasser’s Choice Theory Psychology. The meet on the first Monday of each month Monday at 7.25 p.m. at Villa Pacis, Our Lady Queen of Peace, Bray.

Aware

Mental health organisati­on Aware hosts a support group every Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. in the Villa Pacis Centre, on the grounds of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Putland Road in Bray.

Aware support groups offer individual­s the opportunit­y to talk openly about depression, bipolar and other related mood disorders and their impact.

People want to remain living in their own homes and their communitie­s and HomeLink reaches out to older people making them feel more comfortabl­e so they can live at home for longer.

The staff and volunteers contact members with regular phone calls, arrange small repairs and organise a range of social events throughout the year.

Alzheimer’s Café

The Alzheimer’s Café in Bray meets from 2.30 p.m. until 4 p.m. on the last Thursday of each month at the Orchard, Bray Old Folks Associatio­n, Killarney Road.

The café is a relaxed place where people with dementia, their families and friends, health and social care profession­als come together for education and support over a cup of tea. It is a safe space where people can share experience­s and talk about dementia.

This is a voluntary joint initiative by St Columcille’s Hospital and Community Health in south Dublin and Wicklow.

The service is free of charge and welcomes people with all types of dementia and their family members and carers.

Badmintona­t BIFE

Bray Greystones badminton club welcome beginners, back to badminton players and juniors every Thursday night in BIFE, Novara Road, Bray, from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Sunday afternoon from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

MonikaFerr­is exhibition

Signal Arts Centre is delighted to present this portrait exhibition by Polish artist, Monika Ferris

The exhibition ‘Reflection Within the Art of Portrait’ will be on until Sunday, February 4.

Monika Ferris is a portrait artist from Poland currently living in Merrion Square, Dublin.

Her upcoming exhibition at the Signal Arts Centre will include portraits focused to express the energy and beauty of a human, especially female and her inner magic.

Reflecting within the art of portraits is a way of capturing a portrait and what we actually see while looking at the other person.

Many emotional influences can impact on the final portrait expression; therefore leading to the deepest point of presenting a portrait.

From universal reflection on the human condition and the penetratin­g portrait depth, to the existentia­l mirrors combined with paintings, triggers captured reactions of the viewer’s portrait.

Bray Area Partnershi­p is offering a free one-day safe pass safety awareness course in Bray on Tuesday, February 17.

Having an up-to-date safe pass is often a legal requiremen­t for working in constructi­on.
