GIRLS’ GAELIC FOOTBALL
Well done to the CCA girls’ Gaelic Football team who won their match against St Kilian’s Community School, Bray on Wednesday, January 24. The girls won by a very convincing score line, which really reflected their dominance throughout the match. Taylor Brandon, Kerryann Hamilton and Robyn Evans were unstoppable in attack while Eve Lacey and Úna Power are really proving to be a brilliant midfield pairing.
The defence was never really tested, but Alyssia Larkin and Ciara Mcleavy set up some great scores along with Ruth Ireland, who worked very hard throughout the match. The girls are now waiting to find out who they will play in the Junior B final.
BOYS’ SOCCER
On Monday, January 22, CCA played Wexford CBS in the semi-final of the Wicklow and Wexford league. CCA knew it was going to be a tough game as last year’s semi-final defeat to the same team was far from a distant memory.
For the ntire first half, Wexford were unable to break through the strong CCA defence, with Cian Evans, Conor Tierney, Shane Collins and Adam Farrell dealing comfortably with the Wexford attacks. The rest of the CCA team worked tirelessly to hold off a very energetic and skilful Wexford CBS side and both teams went in at half time all square.
The second half saw CCA grow in confidence as they slowly started to chip away at the Wexford defence, creating a few scoring chances of their own, with some tidy play in midfield from John Paul Nolan, Matt Nolan, Sam Bishop and Ben O’Neill.
Unfortunately, as CCA pressed, it left them more vulnerable at the back, and a clever through ball from the Wexford midfield saw their number nine slot it home. Wexford’s second goal came just 10 minutes later with a cross in from the left and an easy finish for their number 10.
CCA didn’t give up, and as a result of some great play on the left wing, Sam Bishop caught a glorious volley on the edge of the box to make it 2-1. The game opened up and CCA did their very best to find the equaliser. Once again, as CCA progressed further and further up the pitch, Wexford CBS managed to capitalise on this space behind, scoring their third goal with the final kick of the game.
The entire CCA team should be proud of their efforts as they never gave up and pushed a very talented Wexford CBS team right up to the final whistle.
Mr Craig would like to personally thank every member of the squad this season. They displayed amazing levels of skill and teamwork, while representing their school in the best way possible. Mr Craig stated proudly, ‘They are a great bunch of lads and a pleasure to coach.’.
MOCK EXAMS
Best of luck to our third and sixth year students who will be sitting their Mock Exams from Tuesday, January 30, to Friday, February 9. We hope that the study and exam preparation will see each student achieve their potential in these important exams.

The fifth year PTS meetings will take place on Thursday, February 5, in CCA the meetings will take place from 4.15 p.m. to 6.45 p.m. We look forward to discuss your child’s progress to date in preparation for the Leaving Cert.
CYBER SAFETY
CCA celebrated Cyber Safety Awareness Week from January 22 to January 26. The ISPCC spoke to Second year students on Tuesday the 23rd in relation to how to stay safe online and how negative or abusive comments online is cyber bullying and how it can have a lasting effect on people.
Student Council members also spoke at tutorials about how your digital footprint can influence your job or college applications in the future and how information you put online remains there forever.
Thanks to Ms Walsh, Mr Rice and all the students who were involved in this important awareness week.
FRENCH EXCHANGE
The return leg of the French Exchange is taking place from Thursday, February 1, to Monday, February 5, and we look forward to welcome back students from Barentin, near Rouen in France. During their stay the students will do the Viking Splash Tour in Dublin, a cinema trip, the cliff walk and other activities within the school.
