NEWTOWN

Newtown GAA will hold a Juvenile club meeting on Tuesday, January 30, at 7.30pm in the club house.

All mentors and coaches of outgoing boys and girls teams should attend. We would also like to invite new people especially former players and anyone who would like to be part of this thriving new community.

The Newtown men’s Senior GAA will start training on Thursday, February 6, at 7.30 pm in the club house.

There was no winner of last week’s jackpot in the club lotto, so this week rolled over to €4,000. Numbers drawn were 4, 6, 8, and 19, three people matched three numbers each winning €70.

TINAHELY

Next week’s lotto jackpot will be for €6,100 and it will take place in O’Connor’s on January 29.

Training for Minors, Junior and Senior players is on Friday night at 8pm. The Senior lads have a challenge game away to Castletown at the weekend.

Last weekend they traveled to Ashford for a challenge game and I believe they were lucky to have 28 players togged out, so well done to all.

The Blessingto­n GAA social and awards evening was held in the Avon Ri on Friday, January 26. Club Chairman John Williamson welcomed the big crowd who attended and outlined the plans for the club for 2018 while recounting the eventful year that was 2017. New awards this year was the Mick Curran Hall of Fame award and the Robert Hennessy Junior Men’s Player of the Year.

Seniors – Blessingto­n GAA is among 13 teams in Division 1 championsh­ip 2018.Group of six and group of seven. Annacurra, AGB, Avondale, Baltinglas­s, Blessingto­n, Bray Emmets, Eire O, Hollywood, Kiltegan, Newtown, Rathnew, St Patrick’s and Tomacork. Round 1 of the Division 1 football league will be an away game to Hollywood on Saturday, February 17, at 4pm.

Juniors – Blessingto­n GAA will have two Junior teams in 2018 – Junior B and Junior C.

Junior ‘B’ football championsh­ip has 16 teams in the group – four groups of four – An Tochar, AGB, Ashford, Avoca, Avondale, Baltinglas­s, Bray Emmets, Blessingto­n, Carnew, Dunlavin, Enniskerry, Hollywood, Kiltegan, Lacken, Newtown and St Patrick’s.

Division 3 football league away to Kilbride on Sunday, February 18, 11am.

Junior ‘C’ football championsh­ip has 11 teams in the group – one group of five and one group of six. AGB, Annacurra, Barndarrig, Blessingto­n, Coolkenno, Donard The Glen, Fergal Ógs, Kilcoole, Stratford-Grangecon, Tinahely and Valleymoun­t.

County – Well done to the Wicklow ladies and our own club ladies Shona O’Connor and Kim Connors on their win. Also, to the hurlers who had a great win over Armagh. The footballer­s shared the points with Waterford. Well done to our own clubman David Boothman who was on the panel.

Club registrati­on night – Please put Tuesday, February 20, into your diary as this is the clubs registrati­on night. Venue and time TBC. Fees remain the same as 2017. All players (juvenile and adult), coaches, committee members, parents, non-players etc must register on the night. More informatio­n regarding fees will be posted on the clubs website and Facebook page.

Hurling – Age 5 to 9. In the Community College commenced on Wednesday 6pm, January 24 to February 22. €3 per session.

AGB

AGB registrati­on day for our 2018 season will take place on Saturday, February 10, in St. Mary’s College Sports Hall, from 12-4pm. Register early to avail of our great discounted rates. Family rates available. We will be also offering our system of payment of subs for the season upfront or in installmen­ts by April 30 at discount prices.

ST PATRICK’S

All members please not the St Patrick’s annual dinner will take place in the Grand Hotel, Wicklow, on Saturday, February 24.

LARAGH

Senior training continues every Tuesday and Thursdays at 8pm. Everyone make a big effort to attend as it’s only a few weeks away from our first league game away to Donard.

Our juveniles held their AGM at the weekend the committee remains the same as last year with Eamonn Stackem and Christophe­r Merrigan staying on as chairman and secretary.

Over the coming weeks we’ll be looking for volunteers to help out with our juveniles. If anyone can help out for a hour any Wednesday evening your help would be much appreciate­d.

On Saturday, February 17, in Lynham’s lobby were holding a ‘Pass and Present’ Laragh GAA players night. This is being organised by Brian Doyle and we will have the great Jimmy Dunne in attendance.

Jimmy will no doubt have all the details of Laragh’s history over the years. This is a great opportunit­y for the ex players to meet the present Junior ‘A’ champions.

Our fundraisin­g for Strictly LipSync Laragh is getting plenty of attention over the last few weeks. We thank everyone for there continued support. Coming up over the next couple of weekends: On Friday, February 2, there’s Scoil Chaoimhin Naofa’s Got Talent where we will see the top 20 acts from Scoil Chaoimhin Naofa battle it out against each other to claim the number one spot! This will take place in the school at 7pm.

Then on Saturday, February 3, we’ll hold an afternoon tea party from 12-3 in Scoil Chaoimhin Naofa.

On Sunday, February 4, in Lynham’s there’s a spinathon on from 9am to 9pm slots still available every hour.

Also on sale we have sovereign mugs and T-shirts plus 2018 calendars for any of these you can contact any school or GAA member.

The following weekend there’s two major events. On first on Friday, February 9, at 7.30pm in Lynham’s Hotel we’re holding ‘An Evening With The Dubs’.

We’ve a few special guests on the night, Pat Gilroy, Mikey Whelan, and one of the most talented footballer­s around at the minute, Diarmad Connolly. Tickets are selling fast for this event so get your orders in quick. Anyone with any interest in GAA should not miss out on the chance to listen to these legends. Tickets €10 each.

On Saturday, February 10, there’s our very own Blind Date in The Parkview Hotel in Newtown. Once again tickets are selling fast and are limited so get your orders in ASAP as this promises to be a great night with plenty of laughs. Tickets are €10 each. COOLBOY

Due to popular demand, we are putting in another order for our hats. Final orders to Daithí Tighe or Carol Byrne by this Friday, February 2. €10 must be paid before the order is placed.

Friday, February 9, is the final date for the return of the National Club Draw tickets which are currently on sale for €10 and are available from any committee member or footballer.

AVONDALE

Our last lotto draw took place in Miley’s pub on Tuesday, January 23. There was no jackpot winner.

The numbers drawn were 4, 6, 12, and 13. There were three match three winners. Congratula­tions Tony Battle, Annie Darcy and Frankie and lily Hayes.

Next draw takes place in the Cartoon Inn on Tuesday, January 30, at 9.30 pm. Tickets on sale from most local businesses.
