Wicklow march into league final after big win

- UNDER-14 RUGBY at Ashtown Lane

WICKLOW RFC 43 KILKENNT RFC 17

WICKLOW RFC’S under-14s hosted Kilkenny on Saturday last in the semi-final of the South East League. Wicklow got off to a flying start scoring a try from centre Niki Moelders after just four minutes which Tom Hodgkinson converted.

The team played some topclass rugby and had Kilkenny on the back foot from the start. Another try soon followed from Wicklow’s other centre, Scott Fitzpatrick.

And again, Tom Hodgkinson converted. Wicklow were up 14-nil after 10 minutes and were looking set for victory. The lads pushed on and were playing some fine rugby, putting Kilkenny under more pressure which led to Liam Nicholson going over to score a well worked try with Tom Hodgkinson converting once more.

A few minutes later, Niki Moelders ran in another good try which was converted by Hodg- kinson. Kilkenny then scored a try against the run of play which they converted but just on the stroke of half-time, James O’Donnell crossed in the corner to leave the score 33-7 for Wicklow at the break.

The second half saw Kilkenny come more into the game and score two unanswered tries which put Wicklow under pressure but they responded and scored a great try under the posts from Scott Fitzpatrick who showed some great foot work running through the kilkenny defence to touch down. Wicklow then scored a great team try which was finished by Sam O’Connor.
