Minis head north and south for exciting clashes
WICKLOW RFC’s minis were on the move again on Sunday morning (January 28) with the under-7s, 8s, 9s and 10s all travelling south to Enniscorthy RFC while the under-11s went north to Seapoint RFC.
Wicklow RFC’s under-8s travelled with two teams to face their Enniscorthy counterparts for the second time this season. Both squads were evenly matched and had four hotly contested games. With differing styles, the teams put on a fine display of upfront tackling, good handling and open rugby.
The under-10s were also in Enniscorthy and three teams played three great matches against tough opposition. Both sides are well drilled and the Wicklow lads’ intense rucking and sharp ball handling skills were well tested producing some fine rugby with tries aplenty from both sides.
The under-11s paid a visit to Seapoint and the mild January morning meant conditions were ideal from some great running rugby. The Wicklow boys took part in some scintillating contests with their Ballybrack opponents and two evenly matched sides served up some great entertainment. With the Wicklow lads moving the ball wide at every opportunity some fine team tries were scored and they defended their line to the last. The team can be proud of the great strides they have made.
Meanwhile, during training last week the minis joined the rest of Wicklow RFC’s players in the running laps for Sport for Syria. The players’ donations raise funds for the Wicklow Syria Appeal which is working to reunite a family from Homs, displaced by the war, in Wicklow. The laps of the pitch represent bridging the gap between Wicklow and Syria.
Next week, Wicklow RFC’s under-8s travel to MU Barnhall RFC, the under-12s travel to Terenure while the rest of the minis welcome St Mary’s.
