Presentation Junior School to shutdown

January 1987

-

ONE of Bray’s oldest schools is to begin closing down in the new year because of falling demand for places.

According to the authorities at Presentation Junior School, dwindling numbers of pupils in recent years have resulted in severe financial strain at the school.

As a result, it is to be closed down on a phased basis over a six year period, starting next September when no further pupils will be admitted.

According to Brother Basil of the junior school, classrooms left vacant by the closure will gradually be taken over and used by Presentation Secondary School, where there is a growing number of pupils.

Founded in 1921, Presentation Junior School is a private, fee-paying establishment.

It caters for youngsters in the four to 13 year old age group and currently has about 200 pupils on the school rolls.

Parents with children in the school were informed of the decision by the Presentation authorities at a meeting last month.
