Lá Fhéile Bríde – St Brigid’s Day: Tomorrow (Thursday) is the feast of St Brigid, one of the patron saints of Ireland. The symbol which we relate most with her is the Cross of St Brigid which reminds us that we live in the shelter of one another (Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine). Reflections on St Brigid’s Cross: As we look at the extremities of the cross, reaching as they do to the four points of the compass, let it remind us that all the peoples of the earth belong to one family under God, our Father and Mother. As we look at its interlacing in the centre, let us understand that human survival depends on human beings of all nations learning to embrace one another, with generosity, understanding, respect, and a willingness to share the good things of the earth with justice.

Lenten Let’s Talk Family: As part of our preparation for the World meeting of families and for the six weeks of Lent, you are invited to attend a six-week session called Let’s Talk Family. This Programme is based on the Joy of Love (Pope Francis) and is a gentle approach to looking a little more closely at what love looks like in the context of family. Using engaging short videos, animations and activities to encourage discussion, it will offer families, parishes and wider society an opportunity to think about our vision and hopes for family and marriage, and a chance to rediscover the gift that family is to the world. The programme will also challenge us to reflect on how we can provide greater support for marriage and family in our local communities. In particular, Pope Francis has asked us to think about support for newly married couples and outreach to families in need. We are looking forward to having lively and interesting discussion.
