In this new three-part series, food writer Nigel Slater tours the Middle East to experience some of the oldest and grandest cuisines in the world.

He begins in the Lebanon, a country that has remained vibrant despite decades of war. Its food in some ways exemplifies Levantine but also has strong Mediterranean influences, and Nigel starts his journey in Beirut, where he’s invited to celebrate the Muslim holiday of Eid with a local family.
