Air Display scoops prize

- By MARY FOGARTY

BRAY Air Display has won Silver in the Best Tourism Initiative award sponsored by Failte Ireland, at the 12th annual All-Ireland Community and Council Awards presented by IPB Insurance and LAMA.

The awards, which recognise and celebrate community and councils working together, and partnerships and projects that enhance everyday lives, took place on Saturday, February 3 in the Croke Park Conference Centre, Dublin.

RTÉ’s Marty Morrissey was on hand to present the awards to 20 worthy winners selected across a number of categories.

The award win adds to Bray Air Display’s impressive tally, including last year’s ‘Best Festival/Event Experience (Large) at the Irish Tourism Industry Awards. ‘ The Bray Air Display has grown to be a hugely anticipated, popular event in the summer festival calendar that attracted 140,000 people to Bray last year,’ said festival director Sé Pardy.

‘It is very much a team effort - we work hand in hand with Wicklow County Council to make this fantastic event happen each summer and I’m thrilled that the team’s vision, dedication and commitment has been recognised here tonight. I’m delighted that Bray Air Display’s significant contribution to tourism has been honoured.

‘As well as the wonderful support of Wicklow County Council, Bray Air Display wouldn’t happen without main supporters the Irish Aviation Authority as well as bray. ie, statutory bodies, An Garda Síochána, Civil Defence IRL, Order of Malta IRL, participating aircraft, airlines, The Irish Air Corps, our partners and especially our volunteers who are an essential part of the event. Sincere thanks to one and all for helping to make it happen. We look forward to seeing everyone in Bray again this July for the 13th annual Bray Air Display.’
