Great sales recorded at the 43rd show and sale
BALTINGLASS Mart held its 43rd Annual Show and Sale on Wednesday, resulting in one of the best ever sales in the whole history of the business.
There was a huge demand for forward store and lighter store bullocks.
The quality of animals on show lead to so very high prices being paid. There was also a large amount of factory, farmer and export buyers in attendance.
Local farmer John Lawlor, Feddan, Kiltegan won the champion of the show and sale in Baltinglass Mart with his Lisousin Bullock weighing 955kg and making €2320.
John also won the best pair Continental Bullocks.
Another local farming pair from Donard, Cathal and Annmarie Whittle, won several prizes for their top quality Charolais cattle and they achieved some very high prices also.
Joseph Kinsella expressed his satisfaction with another successful Show and he said he was delighted for the local farmers that such high prices were achieved.
He said: ‘ Thanks to all the local farmers for their loyalty to Baltinglass Mart over the past 43 years. We look forward to serving the Farming Community for many more years to come.’
Some of the top prices achieved for Bullocks included 288kg for €800, 330kg for €840 and 442 kg for €900.
Sales that went over €1,000 included 520kg for €1170, 635kg for €1290, 655kg for €1280, 810kg for €1670, 860kg for €1940, 860kg for €1990. 720kg for €1580, 705kg for €1630 and 790kg for €1680.
Next week Baltinglass Mart will hold their heifer Show and Sale on Wednesday, February 7, at 11.30 a.m..

First established in 1968, Baltinglass Mart has been serving the local farming community with weekly sales of cattle and sheep. The most recent sheep sale had slightly smaller numbers and an improved trade, with a top prize of €116 for 56.5kg lambs.
There are bi-monthy horse sales as well as auctions of working dogs.
