Our Junior girls’ team have had a very successful run and currently sit top of the table with one game left to play after the mid-term. A win will see them progress to the playoffs. Senior girls have completed their league games and currently hold onto second place in the league table. The table is yet to be finialised with other teams having games in hand.

BOYS SOCCER

Our under-15 boys soccer team played two matches recently. First up was a league quarter final fixture away to Enniscorthy VC This resulted in a very impressive 2-0 victory with both goals scored by striker Harry Broxson.

Next up was a semi-final meeting with Temple Carrig. This was a much sterner test and despite our best efforts, we lost 4: one, with Tom Flood on the score sheet for EGS the final result is a little bit harsh on our lads as Temple Carrig scored their third and fourth goals in the last couple of minutes of the game.

Over the two games, there was great teamwork and determination in evidence and the boys should be very proud of what they achieved this year.

CAREERS

TY girls enjoyed the ‘I Wish’ conference in Dublin on Monday, January 29. I Wish is an initiative to inspire, encourage and motivate young secondary school female students to pursue the many varied career opportunities in STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and maths).

SCHOOL BANK

The new school bank team comprising of Branch manager Ella Richards, Operations and Audit Victor Hill and Digi Advisors Charles Heather, Eleanor Flynn and Edward Stephens carried out training in their assigned roles. The team hope to talk to different classes over the coming weeks about setting up and managing their bank accounts.

Meanwhile the bank team of 2016-17 were busy buying some new sports equipment with funds they raised by reaching their target last year. They were keen the whole school body should benefit from these funds and so chose a mixture of equipment such as a rowing machine, yoga balls, exercise bench and heart monitors.

TRANSITION YEAR NEWS

How fast the time goes by when your busy and having fun. It’s hard to believe we are already a full month into the new year and that Our TY’s only have two weeks left of their current modules.

In a flurry of activity the TY’s have managed to squeeze in a theatre trip to the Board Gais, built a castle in the assembly hall, learnt hundreds of lines for their play, organised work experience and managed to acquit themselves admirably in various academic tasks from questionnaire building in maths to city planning in geography.

We were also delighted to receive a very positive report back from the Department of Education inspectorate who came in before Christmas to look at our TY program. They were particularly impressed with the depth and range of activities and modules available to the TY’s as well as the maturity, openness and energy of the student body. Such praise, while pleasing only goes to highlight the efforts of the school as a whole and the attitude of our staff in embracing the TY programs.

Finally as you read this you may well be being served by one of our students on work experience, be kind to them please, unless of course they spill your coffee.
