ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for.

parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availabili­ty in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further informatio­n. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, with three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25 people, or 15 people.

St Anne’s Parish Library: There is a wonderful selection of religious/spiritual books available to borrow – free of charge in the foyer of St Anne’s Resource Centre. Opening hours: Monday to Thursday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hospitalit­y Sunday occurs on the second and fourth Sunday of each month after 10.30 a.m. Mass. Books will be on display and available to browse/borrow at that time also.

World Meeting of Families 2018: As part of the WMoF 2018 Programme, the parish will be running a programme called ‘Let’s Talk Family’ – The Joy of Love: Six-Session Parish Conversati­on. The programme will commence on Tuesday, February 20, at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Session one – The Reality of Family Life today; Session two – The Christian Vision for the Family; Session three – God’s Dream for Love; Session four – Married Love Growing to Maturity; Session five – God’s Mercy – No One Excluded; Session six – A Gospel; of Hope for Our Families.

St Anne’s Parish Pastoral Council Meeting: Last Monday night the February Parish Pastoral Council Meeting took place in St Anne’s Resource Centre, at 8 p.m. Suggestion­s are always welcome – these can be left in the box at the back of the church.

Male Voice Choir: We are seeking more volunteers to join our Men’s Choir. We guarantee good company, craic agus ceoil. We meet for tea or coffee on Thursdays at 10.30 a.m., followed by rehearsals from 11 a.m.

Healing Mass – This Sunday: A Healing Mass with Anointing of the sick will take place at 6 p.m. this Sunday to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Cake Sale – This Sunday: A cake sale will take place in St Anne’s Resource Centre this Sunday to raise funds for new flooring in room three, the large room in the Resource Centre.

St Vincent de Paul Society: The monthly church door collection in aid of the Shankill Conference of the St Vincent de Paul Society will take place this weekend. Thank you for your support.

Special Announceme­nt: While St Anne’s Parish is always pleased to offer a slot for cake sales and also for church gate collection­s for local charities. However, we regret that we are now fully booked for such events for all of 2018.

Appeal for Baskets and New Toys/Gifts: We would be most grateful if parishione­rs could bring in any clean hamper baskets, which may be left over from Christmas as we will store them for the 2018 Christmas Fair. We will also accept new unused toys/ gifts. These items may be left into St Anne’s Resource Centre during office hours.

Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group: The Bethany Bereavemen­t Support Group is holding a five-week course to help those who have had a loss. Week four takes place next Monday night from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre., and will continue for the next three Monday nights. This is a free course and open to adults over 18 years of age. You are welcome to join at any stage.

Youth 2000: Youth 2000 is seeking new members for 2018. We invite all 16- to 35-year-olds to join Fr Jaimie on Monday evenings from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre to gather for adoration, prayer and reflection. The meetings are followed by a cup of tea and social from 9 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

Family Offering Envelopes: If you did not receive your Family Offering Box of Envelopes for 2018, of if you would like to contribute to the Family Offering in this way, please contact Maureen in the parish office.

February Film Night – Saturday, February 24: Takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre at 8 p.m. and will be celebratio­n of classical MGM Film Music taken from BBC Proms. All welcome – admission free.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. BOOK SALE

Last Saturday the morning the February First Saturday Book Sale which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n, took place in the Shankill Old Folks Day Centre, Lower Road, Shankill, at which there an excellent selection of books, magazines, dvds and cds on offer at bargain prices.

The March First Saturday Book Sale takes place in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Day Centre on Saturday, March 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. so make a point of calling into the book sale on that Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material.

Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on the day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays – open this Friday but closed on Saturday. Patrick Salmon was elected as chairman of the society at the January AGM of the Rathmichae­l; Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack and the surroundin­g area, having formerly served as Hon. Secretary. Richard Ryan continues as Hon. Treasurer. Eoin Bairead continues as Website Manager with the other Committe members – Richard Dolan, Adrienne Hume, Paula Ni Cheallaig and Frank Sheridan, with Rob Goodbody and John Lennon serving as x-officio members as they were former presidents.

Tonight (Wednesday) the February meeting of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, takes place at 8 p.m. in Rathmichae­l National School, Stonebridg­e Road (Dublin Road end), Shankill at which Tim Carey will present his lecture ‘Dublin since 1922’ in which he will tell the story of Ireland’s capital city since independen­ce starting with the founding of the Irish state, when Dublin had the worst slums in Europe, ending with the last days of the Celtic Tiger. ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NEWS

The juvenile Academy is back in action in St Laurence College at 10 a.m. on Saturday mornings. For times for various team training sessions please contact your team coach.

A team made up of our lady footballer­s won the club quiz and will now go forward and represent Dublin in the all-Ireland Score quiz final to be held on Saturday, April 14, in the Clayton Hotel, Sligo. We all wish them the best of luck.

Sadly, after 15 years, SARA has closed due to the lack of people willing to form a committee. Other activities such as Scrabble, Book Club, and art will continue as usual.
