-

A WOMAN in her 20s died after getting into difficulty in the water off Bray Head last Tuesday afternoon.

The woman was a Latvian native living in County Dublin.

Walkers on the Cliff Walk heard someone screaming and shouting from the water beneath them when they were about half way between Bray and Greystones. They raised the alarm at around noon on Tuesday, February 6. Greystones and Wicklow units of the Irish Coast Guard were tasked along with the helicopter, Rescue 116.

The National Ambulance Service and Dun Laoghaire RNLI were also alerted to assist the person in distress.

The Greystones Coast Guard boat and Dun Laoghaire lifeboat were launched and the casualty located. She was winched aboard the helicopter and transported to Tallaght hospital. Sadly, the woman in her mid-20s did not survive the incident. Although the lady was not carrying identification, she was reported missing that evening by her family in Dublin and her identity was established.
