WICKLOW RFC MULLINGAR RFC 53 22

WICKLOW’S under-18 girls welcomed old rivals Mullingar to Ashtown Lane last Saturday in the Leinster Premier Division.

With a history of close matches between the two this was a highly anticipated clash and will go a long way to determining league position.

Mullingar kicked off with the wind in their favour. Wicklow made ground from the kick off with strong carries through the pack and brilliant handling by the backs.

Within 15 minutes Wicklow were 10-0 up with two well worked tries through the backline.

Mullingar fought back strongly, and helped by a sequence of penalties for Wicklow indiscipline at the breakdown went the length of the pitch to score in the corner.

From this point onwards, Wicklow started to get the upper hand and with smart rugby managed to run in two more tries before half time to lead 22-5.

Despite Mullingar getting the opening and closing scores of the second half, Wicklow were good value for the win, being dominant in the set piece and open play. Wicklow added 31 points in the second half to leave the final score 53-22 to Wicklow.

The Wicklow under-18 girls remain on top of the Leinster Premier League with two matches to play. The quality of their rugby is very good and was much appreciated by the large crowd of spectators at the match.
