Good running for Wicklow

High finishes in Galway

THERE were some noteworthy results for Wicklow athletes in Clarinbrid­ge last weekend at the Irish Life Health Intermedia­tes, Masters, Juvenile B and Juvenile XC Relays at Kilcoran Estate.

Aughrim AC’s Lacey Shannon put in a fine run in the under-13 girls competitio­n when she finished seventh in a very strong field.

Twin sisters Aimee Bell King and Bonnie Bell King representi­ng Inbhear Dee AC took to the course for the under-15 girls race with Aimee storming home in fourth place and Bonnie finsihing in a respectabl­e 14th.

The Wicklow quartet of Aisling Smith, Carol Costello, Annmarie Kenny and Catherine O’Connor finished fourth in the county and fifth in the club standings in the masters section of the event under the Sli Cualann banner.

Aisling Smith put in a tremendous run in shockingly bad conditions on the County Galway track when she stormed home in 10th place overall to claim a national sailver medal in her age group.

Catherine O’Connor came home in 28th, Annmarie Kenny in 44th and Carol costello finsihed in 76th spot.

Clive Quinn finished 18th overall in the men’s section, fifth in his o40s section.

Cormac Conroy finished in sixth place in the o45 section, Mick Byrne took sixth in his age group of o55 and Billy Tyrrell claimed fifth spot in the o60s.

On Febraury 24, the Wicklow Hospice 5k, 10k and half marathon takes place. Mark it in your diary.
