UNDER-15 FOOTBALL

St KIlian’s CS two St David’s 1: St Kilian’s under-15 boys’ team finally got the win they so well deserved in their last game against St David’s of Greystones. Played in the most horrendous conditions, both teams gave it their all in an extremely competitive match.

St Kilian’s team started the game on the front foot and produced a number of attacks in the opening five minutes. With a new partnership upfront in Adam Byrne and Joseph Kelly, the St David’s defence struggled with their speed and strength. Both lads played an important role in setting up the opening goal for Josh McGlone, who became our leading scorer for the under-15s.

The second goal for St Kilian’s came mid way through the first half from a corner. Ryan Fitzpatrick delivered a pinpoint cross into the box which broke to Adam Byrne and he volleyed home, just like a professional.

St Kilian’s continued to press till the end of the half with Ryan Stafford and Mason Kelly leading the charge with a number of efforts but unfortunately they could not find the back of the net.

In the second half, St Kilian’s had to produce a very different style of football. The defence of Tadgh Allen, Mark Byrne, Jake Doyle and Daniel Browne were under considerably more pressure but they were more then equal to it. Any shots that were goal bound, Alan Coster, playing in goals for the first time this year dealt very confidently with.

St David’s did get a great opportunity to get back into the match when they were awarded a penalty but their attempt was sent wide. They did get a late consolation goal – Alan Coster saved a free kick but the rebound was tapped in by the St David’s attacker.

St Kilian’s saw out the remainder of the game fairly comfortably and Owen Tobin and Conor Fullerton were ready for every counter attack that was created.

This was the last league game for the under-15s and it was great to go out with a victory. Well done to all who took part and to Mr Donohoe for all his hard work.

JUNK KOUTURE

On Thursday, January 25, the corridors of St Kilian’s became home to high fashion as Ms Ring’s fourth year art class were photographed modelling their Junk Kouture costumes, which they had spent the last few months hard at work designing and making.

The very imaginative and seri- ously wearable outfits (all created from rubbish) have now been submitted to Junk Kouture’s Nationwide recycled fashion competition. The students displayed huge amounts of dedication and creativity so now it’s ‘fingers crossed’ time, in hopes that they will be selected to go forward in the national finals, as in previous years at St Kilian’s.

For the photo shoot, the students who modelled the costumes were beautifully ‘made up’ (to co-ordinate with their Junk Kouture creations), by former students of St Kilian’s, Jade McAteer and Rebecca Moore, who very kindly returned to the school to support the class by using their expert skills doing their make-up for the event. This was a huge help and was greatly appreciated by all.

Jade and Rebecca are now studying Fashion, Theatre, Media and Make up in BIFE and more of their wonderful make up work can be found on social media accounts (instagram: @makeupbyjade and @makeup_rmoore).

Some of the wonderful photographs of the costumes were shown in the Bray People of January 31. so if you missed them, take another look. Well done to all the students involved, to Jade and Rebecca and to Ms Ring, who is following in the excellent footsteps of Ms Murray by facilitating this most rewarding and exciting workshop for our students.
