Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday falling on the same day impacted on the numbers this week, as the absent members were either dining with their sweethearts or on their knees repenting of the addiction to gambling playing bridge each week! However, the small crowd had a very enjoyable game despite the absentees.

The winning couple were Rose Behan and her regular partner Rosemary Morrissey ahead (by a narrow margin) of Ann McCarthy and Billy Dunne.

Third was Marian O’Sullivan who was partnered by the wonderful player called ‘Harvey.’ Marian’s regular partner could not get away from work on time so one of the sit out pair each round stood in to play each hand.

The next three couples were within one point of each other but failed to catch the first three. The novice players are getting used to the game and are a welcome part of the evening competition.

Next week the TD (tournament director) will be away on holiday and deputy dog, Garry Dowling, will be in the hot seat. Ann McCarthy will be leading the hour’s tuition session from 6.30 to 7.30 p.m.

Thanks again to the Dominican Sisters for the use of the Ecology Centre conference room every Wednesday evening. and Leonard Murphy and Edward Kilcoyne in third.

Friday is a relaxed morning with a break for refreshments and catch up, which is a popular event.

The results on Monday, February 12, saw Una Ryan and Barbara Martin finish first. Ann McCoy and Sinead Cahill were second and Joe Kelly and Leonard Murphy a close third.
