Man admits beating up partner in pub toilets

DISTRICT COURT ROUND-UP

-

A MAN who beat up his partner because she was in a pub toilet with someone else appeared in Bray District Court last Thursday.

Chris Farrell (37), 30 Season Park, Newtownmountkennedy, admitted the offence.

The court heard that both parties were socialising in the Mountkennedy Inn on the night of December 26, 2016.

Over the course of night, the injured party, a Ms Devlin, was in the ladies’ toilets.

While she was in there, Farrell came in in a rage, the court heard, and kicked in the cubicle door.

He assaulted her and her injuries included bruising and concussion and bruising to the chest and torso.

On February 25, 2017, at Sugarloaf Crescent in Bray, Farrell was verbally abusive and threatening to her, the court heard.

Solicitor Brendan Maloney said that his client is ashamed of the episode. He had been in an 18-year relationship with Ms Devlin, the majority of it very good.

They did suffer a break-up and got back together three or four months before this occasion.

On the night in question, they arranged a babysitter and went out, said Mr Maloney. ‘ The injured party was in the ladies. She found herself in the toilets with another person,’ he said.

‘He should have walked away, he accepts that. His anger and temper got the better of him. He is very ashamed of what transpired and had never succumbed to that type of behaviour before.’

Mr Maloney said that both parties are now civil towards one another.

Judge David Kennedy sought a victim impact report and adjourned the matter to March 22.
