DANCERS ARE PAIRED UP AND READY TO GO
LAST Sunday saw the official launch of Newtownmountkennedy’s Strictly Come Dancing in the Parkview Hotel.
Twenty-six dancers were paired up and assigned their dance. The MC on the night was Jim McCabe from 4FM.
‘We are delighted with the huge amount of interest that Strictly Newtown has drawn,’ said Robert Byrne, coordinator of the organising committee.
‘With well-known faces from our community participating, it has generated a real buzz, and all of the dancers are really looking forward to putting on a great show on the night.’
Strictly Come Dancing takes place in the Parkview on Saturday, April 21, having been organised by Newtownmountkennedy and District Tidy Towns along with Newtown 2050.
Each of the dancing couples will dance in front of an anticipated crowd of 500 people on the night, and receive marks from the judges for each of their dances.
The dancers will now spend the next nine weeks working with the professional choreographers to perfect their couple dances and a group dance to wow the audience on show night.
‘We greatly appreciate the amount of support that we have received so far both locally and further afield, with businesses agreeing to sponsor the event. We are looking to this valued support continuing,’ said Huw O’Toole, Chairperson of Newtown 2050 and one of the dancers taking part.
The funds raised will go towards the Tidy Towns and a new greenway.
