Referee: Nathan Wall (Cork) WICKLOW ladies football squad, who had a long journey last Sunday to Askeaton in Limerick, have a return to home pastures this coming weekend.

They take on their northern visitors in the shape of Antrim this Sunday in Roundwood at 2pm.

The Limerick match was a tight affair in gruelling conditions. However, after a goal from Clodagh Fox settled them down to lead 2-3 to 0-1 they went on to record a comfortable enough victory on a score of 2-7 to 1-5.

This victory left Wicklow atop the Lidl Division 4 by a single point and they will wish to keep it that way.

The Antrim side, whose sole defeated was to Limerick, will make the long journey south knowing that Wicklow are currently on the crest of a wave.

Wicklow have strength in depth this year and the likes of Niamh McGettigan, Claire Walsh, Sarah Jane Winders, Aoife Gorman, and Jackie Kinch are showing fine form even at this early stage.

Of course the scoring power of the squad is beyond doubt and in Amy Murphy and Laura Hogan they have players capable of keeping the scoreboard ticking over.

This result of this match match will go a long way towards ensuring that the winners are in s strong position to qualify for the latter stages of Division 4 and for that reason a confident vote is given to the Garden girls to grab the three points on offer and extend their lead at the top of the table.

Antrim on the other hand know that a victory will certainly keep them in the mix for a semi-fi- nal spot and they will certainly do everything in their power to defeat the Garden side.

In a further item of note the match in Roundwood will also be the venue for Wicklow’s first match under the auspices of their new sponsors.

The Wicklow Ladies new sponsors, Aspire Perfecting Networks through their connection to Bill Walsh (a proud Kerryman now residing in Kilbride), have been announced as our main sponsors and we are delighted to have them on board for the next two seasons.

The squad and their management of Mick O’Rourke, Mick Kavanagh, Emer Miley and Caitriona McKeon certainly hope that Sunday will see a huge Wicklow support travel the short journey up to the An Tochar venue for what should be a bright afternoon’s entertainment between two strong skilful teams who always serve up a great game of football.
