BALINACOR STRAT/GRANGECON 1-13 1-8

PAIDI BYRNE’S Ballinacor got off to a great start in Division 2 with a 1-13 to 1-08 victory over Stratford-Grangecon in Glenmalure last Saturday afternoon.

For the visitors it was their first match under the new management team of Pat Cronin, Jimmy ‘Sixpence’ Barrett and Declan Bollard and the westerners were well in this game .

It was on a wet and heavy pitch that Liam Keenan Jnr got this game underway and the home side hit the ground running and dominated the early exchanges, a hand passing/high tempo running game that had Stratford-Grangecon on the back foot.

Balinacor grabbed the first four points and followed those with a tasty goal.

Stratford-Grangecon settled after this and Ross Coogan grabbed two points to steady the ship.

A bust up just before half-time left both sides with 14 men for the remanider of the game and at the break Balinacor lead Stratford-Grangecon by 1-06 to 0-02.

Stratford-Grangecon explaoded into the second half with points from Ross Coogan and 1-01 from full-forward Jason Bolger.

Paidi Byrne’s men responded well to this insolence and pushed on against a battling Stratford-Grangecon to win by 1-13 to 0-08.

Stratford-Grangecon take on Valleymount next Saturday in what should be a cracker of a game.
