Carnew share spoils

CARNEW’S John Kavanagh ensured that James Hickey’s first competitive fixture as manager didn’t end in defeat when his late point secured a share of the spoils against Newtown.

A Ross Davis penalty had helped the Magpies to a 1-03 to 0-03 lead at the break.

Newtown also welcomed back Dean Odlum and the talented attacker bagged two points, while substitute Barry Davis nailed a peach of a point off the bench.

It was looking like victory for Newtown until Kavanagh struck.
