Bray Minors show well against handy Lucan
LUCAN SARSFIELDS BRAY EMMETS 2-12 1-12
THE Bray Emmets Minor hurling team got their Dublin campaign off the mark on Sunday in a dour and mucky Arthur Griffith Park against Lucan Sarsfields.
The Lucan outfit had laboured their wares in Division 1 since under-12 and to everyone’s surprise found themselves in Division 2 this year.
The game was somewhat hampered by the poor underfoot conditions and persistent drizzle which fell relentlessly for most of the game.
However, to the credit of both teams a lot of hard, skillful hurling was produced which added to a good spectacle for a mid-February match.
Both side were even at the break through a combination of fine marksmanship and free taking.
The second half was a rip-roaring one for Bray who eased into a 6 point lead only to be pegged back by a fine Lucan goal and a combination of points from needless frees.
With two minutes to go a speculative high ball into the Bray goal mouth produced a deflection to the net which ended the contest. The final score line of 1-12 to 2-12 was somewhat disrespectful to Bray in that a draw would have been the fairest result – but we have won games with similar good fortune and these results even themselves out over the course of a season.
This was one of the finest displays to be produced by the Bray Emmets team in terms of the opposition, weather and pitch conditions and the fact that Bray were missing five starters from key positions across the team.
If this performance heralds what can be anticipated from the year to come, they are in for a cracking season.
