Wicklow water supply is hit again

February 2008

-

WICKLOW TOWN residents once again found themselves having to cope with water shortages this week, after yet another burst pipe.

The burst pipe occurred on a 12-inch main in the County Council controlled area of Rathnew on Monday evening and workmen began tackling the problem once they were made aware, working late into Monday night and starting again at 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Wicklow Town Clerk Helen Purcell yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon said all that was possible was being done to rectify the situation.

‘ The County Council are hoping to have it fixed very, very soon. A lack of pressure due to the burst pipe meant some of the higher situated places in town, like Wicklow Heights and Mount Carmel, started feeling shortages late Tuesday morning.’

Near the end of January two burst pipes in Ashford resulted in thousands of homes losing water, some for a number of days.
