KILMACANOGUE DIARY
History society
The members of the Kilmacanogue History Society would like you to join them on March 6 to re-live the adventures of Ernest Shackleton at Frank Nugent’s Re-Enactment of Shackleton’s Antarctic Rescue Mission. Ernest Shackleton was born near Athy, Co. Kildare and spent the first 10 years of his life in Ireland before his family moved to England, to enable his father to pursue his medical career. Ernest began his seafaring career at aged 16 and joined his first expedition to the Antarctic in his late twenties.
Thus, began his involvement in a series of heroic expeditions but what must be one of the most incredible journeys of all time is re-lived by Frank Nugent, who re-traced the steps of the famous explorer and is recounting this amazing story in the Glenview Hotel at 8 p.m.
Table quiz
Nellie King will be holding a table quiz in Plucks this Monday (February 26) in aid of Pieta House. A team of Four costs €40 and your support on the night and/or donation of raffle prizes would be greatly appreciated. It is a while since we had a table quiz in the village when once they were really popular so it is hoped for a good turn out on the night. Start time is 8.30 p.m. and for more information, please contact Nellie at 086 0844614.
Soccer action
The under-12s had a Shield Final second Leg on Sunday morning at home to Roundwood. The final was tied 1-1 after the first leg and the stakes were high on Sunday. Sadly for the young Glens, they never really got going in this one and missed a couple of good opportunities but Roundwood snatched it with a cracking goal and the club would like to congratulate them on their victory.
Both the second leg of the under-14s Shield Final v Newtown and Senior Game away to Ashford fell victim to waterlogged pitches.
GAA victory
It was a great start for new senior team manager Mark King on Sunday when his troops travelled to Rathnew for their first league game of 2018 and came away with a win after a 1-14 to 2-05 victory.
Ben O’Callaghan got the goal in the first half as Kilmac led 1-07 to 1-02 at the break.
This Saturday they face Coolkenno in the league with Throw In at 4 p.m. and support would be welcomed.
