Wicklow gardaí to ‘Box for Barretstown’

-

WITH 32 members of the Wicklow garda division preparing to ‘Box 4 Barretstown’, they recruited some of the children from that facility to help out at Bray Garda Station last week.

The white-collar boxing event will take place on Friday, March 2, at the Parkview Hotel in Newtownmountkennedy.

Among their ranks is Olympic boxer Garda Adam Nolan, who took on the task of training up his colleagues for the challenge.

The fighters have been drawn from all ranks of An Garda Síochána serving in the county, from garda to superintendent.

Tickets are €25 on the door, or €20 in advance, and are available at district garda offices in Bray, Wicklow town and Baltinglass. They can also be purchased from any competing boxer.

Last Friday, a number of Barretstown kids reported for duty at Bray station. They donned the all-important uniform, did some training and carried out a checkpoint on Convent Avenue. They had a good examination of a patrol car and received certificates for their work.

Barretstown offers free, specially de- signed camps and programmes for children and their families living with a serious illness, supported behind the scenes by 24-hour on-site medical and nursing care.
