Funding granted to stop illegal dumping

-

FIVE projects in County Wicklow have been allocated funding to help tackle illegal dumping.

In total, over €24,000 has been allocated for the five projects in County Wicklow. The projects being funded are: Newtownmountkennedy Springfield Park Regeneration; Kiltegan and District Anti-dumping Initiative; Hillview Housing Estate Anti-dumping Initiative; Ennereilly Coast Care Anti-dumping Initiative and Kilcarra Community Response to Anti-dumping.

Minister of State Andrew Doyle said that illegal dumping is a ‘ blight on our communities’ and that it demonstrates ‘a complete lack of respect’ for others and for the environment.

‘Covert surveillance and smart technology including aerial imagery from drones and satellites, as well as the installation of CCTV cameras will form a central part of this crackdown,’ said Minister Doyle. ‘We will see better enforcement of anti-dumping measures and stronger prosecutions being made.’
