Social Democrats to host meeting

CLLR Jennifer Whitmore and Deputy Róisín Shortall of the Social Democrats will host a public meeting titled ‘A Better Future for Wicklow’ in Wicklow town this weekend.

The meeting takes place in the Grand Hotel from 12.30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 3.

Jennifer Whitmore is the Social Democrats candidate for Wicklow and a Councillor for the Greystones Municipal District.

Originally from Co Wexford, she moved to Australia in 2001 and lived there for 10 years. She holds qualificat­ions in environmen­tal law and ecology. In Australia, Cllr Whitmore worked alongside government Ministers developing environmen­tal law, water management and energy policy.

‘ This is where I got my first insight into political life. It’s also where I learned how important it is to involve the people about whom you are making decisions, into that decision making process,’ said Cllr Whitmore.

In 2014, she topped the poll in the Greystones Municipal District and was elected to the Wicklow County Council.

Róisín Shortall is a TD for Dublin North-West and co-leader of the Social Democrats. First elected in 1992, Deputy Shortall has been re-elected at every General Election since – giving her over 20 years’ experience in national politics.

The meeting is open to everyone to attend.
