Avondale scrape home against AGB

-

AVONDALE AGB 2-08 0-13

PLAYED in Ballinakill last Wednesday Avondale just held off a spirited AGB revival to secure their first brace of points in Division 1A.

The first half was a tale of four goal chances with AGB missing both of their great opportunities and Avondale clinically finishing their two chances in a two-minute spell just before the break.

Ryan Cahill netted in the 28th minute after a mazy run and Shane Byrne was forward from centre back to finish a rebound to the net a minute later.

This gave Emmet Sullivan’s charges a 2-6 to 0-5 interval lead. The break came at the right time for Paul Gahan’s charges who were missing quite a few regulars through injury.

Stephen Hurley led the AGB fightback in the second half with unerring accuracy from frees and play, but two points from Sean and Oisin McGraynor were enough for the Dales to scrape home.

Avondale: Ryan Cahill and Shane Byrne 1-0 each. Sean McGraynor 0-4, Oisin McGraynor 0-2, David and Eoin Baker 0-1 each.

AGB: Stephen Hurley 0-7, Cormac O’Shea 0-2, Quentin O’Reilly, Jack Furlong, Donal O’Keeffe and Chris O’Brien 0-1 each.
