TRANSITION YEAR MUSICAL

Our TY’s took to the stage before the mid-term break to perform the Harvard sorority musical, Legally Blonde. The all-singing all-dancing TY’s engaged their spellbound audiences during their three matinee and three evening performances as the cast put their rehearsals into action.

The entire TY year group are involved in the show with key roles in the cast, production and management, set design and the accompanying chorus all being filled. The production was a truly tremendous success with dazzling, energetic and superbly entertaining performances from all concerned.

SPORTING PRESS

It has to be said that we came within a whisker of progressing to the semi-finals of the Leinster Senior Cup last week against Blackrock College. Our Leinster League winners certainly put it up to ‘Rock’ in the first half with inspirational performances throughout. We were patient and causing Blackrock all manner of problems with the half-time score in our favour. An exchange of penalties in the second half had the game on a knife-edge with St Gerard’s ahead on 17-16 and 10 minutes on the clock, nail-biting. Unfortunately we were undone by a drop goal from Blackrock in the end and the tie finished 17-19 to Blackrock College. Our SCT were bitterly disappointed missing that semi-final berth however we wish Blackrock College every success in the semi-final.

Meanwhile our JCT overcame a tenacious Wesley College in Greystones RFC before the midterm break. The side found their feet as the game progressed and they showed great commitment to run out eventual winners on a 25-16 score line. Next up they face Blackrock College on Tuesday the 27th in Donnybrook Stadium.

The Inters Schools Show Jumping Competition took place at Boswell Equestrian on February 17. The St Gerard’s Show Jumping Team of Mily O’Loughlin, Emma Ward, Eilis Breathnach and Mark Finnerty won this prestigious event from nine competing teams with two of our riders jumping against the clock in a jump-off. A well deserved congratulations to our four riders.

In athletics we congratulate Róisín Treacy on her win in the 1500m in the Leinster Indoor Championships last week. A tremendous achievement and well done.
