GoldmedallistJohn Kealyreturnshome
February 1989
GOLD medal swimmer John Kealy returned home to Arklow from New Zealand, with the magnificent achievement of winning two gold medals in the World games for the Deaf in Christchurch. Arklow town centre was overtaken by his many fans and admirers who turned out in full blast to give a hero’s welcome to their very own pride and joy.
John’s proud young brother Steven welcomed him home with a sign reading ‘ My brother is the champ, says Steven.’ Many in the audience were seen wiping tears of joy from their eyes as Cllr. Clandillon eulogised John Kealy on his great achievements in New Zealand. John Kealy will now be setting his sights on the European Championships for the Deaf which will be held in Sweden in 1991.
