Coast Guard assists woman

-

COAST GUARD units from Wicklow and Greystones came to the aid of a woman who had fallen badly near Brittas Bay Beach recently.

The units were tasked to assist the woman at 7.48 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, by the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Dublin so as to help the National Ambulance Service (NAS) crew from Arklow who had been sent to look after the injured woman.

Both units were also joined by the southern flank team Courtown/Arklow Coast Guard unit.

An all-terrain vehicle was deployed to locate the casualty and transport any of the necessary equipment. Other members also made their way through the darkness to the casualty on foot.

Each unit worked in tandem to package and transport the casualty to a waiting ambulance which was located a kilometre away. A stretcher with a special wheel attached to it was used as it makes the extraction of casualties easier during long evacuations.
