Frank shines spotlight on hotels in new book
SOME of Wicklow’s most famous hotels are included in a new book by Bray author Frank Corr.
‘Irish Hotels – A Celebration’ was launched by the Irish Hotels Federation during its annual conference at the Slieve Russell Hotel in County Cavan.
The book records the 80 years of the federation through the eyes of its presidents – from Josie Mongan, the Connemara hotelier and Dail deputy who was the founder president in
1937 to Joe Dolan of the Bush Hotel, Carrick on Shannon, who completed his two-year term of office at the conference.
Wicklow hotels featured in the book include Tinakilly House and Hunters Hotel, both in Rathnew, and the Woodenbridge Hotel in the Vale of Avoca.
The book also records the role of hotels in Irish history, the development of tourism, the contribution of the hotel sector to the economy, stories of some of Ireland’s hotel families, the evolution of technology and the ‘game changers’ who changed the course of Irish hotel-keeping.
This is the 10th book by Frank Corr, who is also a journalist and website publisher. His previous works have included biographies, a novel and several books about Irish tourism and hospitality.
Frank will be delivering the three-day writing break ‘Memoirs are Made of This’ in Donegal next month. The three-day break will include tutorials on memoir writing, discussions on current projects, creative writing opportunities, workshop sessions, lively dinner discussions, a cookery demonstration and wine-tasting.
